"Parents and carers receive detailed progress reports and are encouraged to actively support students to succeed"
- Ofsted 2009

While BSix offers an adult environment and encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning and conduct, your involvement and awareness are key, and we are committed to working closely with you to keep you up to date with your child's progress and life at BSix and holding a full timetable of special events at which you can meet teachers and tutors face to face.

You can help your son or daughter to succeed by:

  • making us aware of any change in circumstances or difficulties experienced outside college which might affect
    your child’s performance.
  • supporting your child in becoming independent by managing his or her own learning, so that he or she can reach his
    or her full potential.
  • informing us in writing of changes of address, telephone numbers, etc.
ensuring family holidays do not coincide with term time. If unavoidable written notification should be provided in advance.

We look forward to seeing you at a future evening event.

Further Information
It is important that you make every effort to attend parents’ evenings. In cases where parents are divorced or separated, BSix will communicate with the parent who has ‘residency’ rights.

Although it is your son/daughter’s responsibility to report his/her own absence or withdrawal, you are expected to ensure this occurs.

Attendance and Punctuality
Attendance mentors who start calling students with records of unsatisfactory attendance at 8am, and a 'late desk' are two of the ways we seek to challenge and improve late arrivals and absences from college. We hope that parents and guardians will assist us in this activity, by encouraging children to:

  • organise themselves the night before i.e. pack bag, look at timetable for next day
  • have a good night of sleep (at least 8 hours)
  • eat something healthy in the morning
  • leave home feeling comfortable about the day ahead
  • leave home in good time
  • leave home with the right materials for the day

BSix for Parents

We strive to keep you in touch with your child's progress at BSix, and have set up many channels so that you and the teachers involved in your child's education can communicate freely and easily.

Welcome Evening
We hold a Welcome Evening in September for the parents of students new to BSix.

Open Evenings
Held between November and February, these evenings welcome parents and guardians as well as prospective students to discuss course options, meet BSix tutors and view the facilities.

Reports & Progress
Written reports and other information about the progress of students are sent to parents throughout the academic year.

Appeal for Support – Get Involved
There are vacancies for Parent Governors at BSix. This will involve attending four evening meetings a year and there are opportunities to take part in specialist sub-committees such as standards and achievements. If you are interested, please contact Geeta Joshi on 020 8525 7199 or gjoshi@brookehouse.ac.uk.

Safety
BSix has a rigorous security system. Employing measures such as identity cards for all students and staff which are visibly worn at all times, we offer a safe, peaceful; and comfortable working environment.
