Huge Upgrade For BSix Facilities

Teachers and students may be on holiday but it is frantically busy at BSix. The College has been given the resources by the funding body, the Young People's Learning Agency, to overhaul and expand its facilities.

A new canteen floor has been laid. A new kitchen is being installed, designed and overseen by our award-winning consultant and restaurateur, Amar Ahluwalia.

Bob Herring, the College's premises manager, is managing the installation of the first floor of a new building at the rear of the College. It will house a Professional Development Centre for staff, our Students Services team and a light, airy room for our Art Foundation course. A second storey of four large teaching rooms will be installed in October

Four more teaching rooms and study centres will be created on the ground floor of the main building. In the new year the ICT suite will be reorganised and new, larger teaching rooms for our ICT courses will be created ..... and the library is going to be completely redesigned and refurbished!

Exhausted? Well, it doesn't stop there. A new room, the 'Red Room', is being built to recreate Oxford and Cambridge on our premises. It will be designed to give our students a real sense of what it is like to live and study in Oxford and Cambridge. Tutorials and seminars will be delivered in the room by Dr Peter Claus, who will be the Visiting Fellow at BSix – the first ever in the country.

When Dr Claus looks out of the 'Red Room' he will have a view of the Garden of the Ancient World. The BSix garden is being redesigned and re-equipped so that it celebrates ancient civilisations and serves as another space for quiet conversation, study and contemplation.

"This is a very exciting time for us", Principal Ken Warman says. "All of this investment arises from our commitment to provide the very best for all of our students and staff. We hope our returning students will be taken aback by the changes. Our new students will be entering an exciting, interesting and stimulating environment."
