BSix on Radio Four
BSix has just featured prominently in a Radio 4 documentary about social mobility called "The Class Ceiling". In the first of two programmes the award-winning journalist Polly Toynbee explored how social class shapes our early years.

Ms Toynbee interviewed three of our students. Hetal, who has just completed her Level 3 Hair & Beauty course, explained how being trained to give presentations to governors and college staff had boosted her confidence. She had been shy but doing these , observing lessons and participating in a student-led inspection of the College had given her the skills and self-confidence necessary for her future career, Faith Layachi , who has just finished her BTEC National Diploma in Business , also emphasised how being trained to observe lessons alongside her own teachers had raised her self-esteem. Finally, Shirley Tetteh , who has just sat her A levels , was featured throughout the programme talking about how BSix had prepared her for university. In particular, she spoke about her experiences on the Pem-Brooke oprogramme ,a year-long academic course which culminates in a week-long summer school. Shirley explained how the programme had persuaded her to aim high and to consider university as a future option.
Ms Toynbee also interviewed the College's Principal, Ken Warman. He described how BSix aims to give its students a top-quality experience comparable with public schools. He explained the objective of the College to prepare its students, in the round, for the next stage of their lives. Ms Toynbee also asked him to say something about the building. Mr Warman told her how the whole college is geared towards achieving its educational mission of "Aspire Study Achieve" and "High standards for all".
This broadcast is just one of many appearances in the media by BSix students and staff. "This has been an exceptionally good year for BSix", Rebekah Harris the College's Head of External Relations who herself recently appeared on BBC News 24 concludes."The number of TV, radio and newspaper features about BSix testify to the many exciting things going at the College and are a tribute to the poise and eloquence of our students when featured in the media".
