University Gateway @ The Petchey Academy: Official Partner School of BSix
The Learning Trust in Hackney has been integral in supporting BSix College in the development of partner schools. The recognition of the high standards that form the core of BSix and the desire to support collaborative work in the borough to encourage students to stay in Hackney for their post-16 education has been the driving force behind these partnerships.

The Petchey Academy’s ethos can be summed up as, “Entrepreneurial about learning; in the business of success.' This is a key time for the Academy as it will open its doors to its’ first cohort of Y11 students in September 2010 and will also launch its’ University Gateway provision for first teaching in September 2011. The Academy is keen to ensure that they provide their students with the best advice and guidance about progression routes at Post 16. Whilst many of their students are likely to progress to their University Gateway, they are aware that the applied course offer at BSix will be a more suitable route for some of their Y11’s to aspire to; as such BSix will exclusively be the recommended provider for applied course progression.

In March the first meeting was held between BSix and Petchey Academy to discuss curriculum offer and to look at ways to tailor the progression compact to meet the needs of the students. By the end of April 2010, the Progression compact was signed ready for implementation for the start of the new academic year. The Petchey Academy is looking forward to developing further the lifelong partnership with BSix in order to improve the opportunities for young people of Hackney.
