Exam Board
EDEXCEL BTEC Level 3 Certificate in IT (AS) and BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in IT (A2)
Overview
These new qualifications are taken from the BTEC suite of qualifications and are assessed by 100% coursework. ICT is about using and applying computers, software packages and information systems in business and other contexts. It is not about how they work! If you want to know about how computers are used and how to use applications such as spreadsheets, databases or web development software then ICT is the subject you should take. In Year 1 of this course you will learn about business applications of IT, creating your own website, how to install software, and how to upgrade hardware such as memory. In Year 2 you will design an e-commerce website, create an original graphic product and learn about Management Information Systems. Most of the teaching is in our up to date computer laboratories – the course offers active learning in a vocational context. The emphasis is on business and practical applications of ICT. If you are interested in programming you should consider A Level Computing. Students who do well at ICT can gain entry to a very wide range of university courses.
