A Level Law

Why study Law?
You should study Law because it affects every aspect of our day-to-day lives, such as our relationships with other people, the workplace, traffic laws and even the food we eat. It’s important to have a basic understanding of what conduct is acceptable and unacceptable in the eyes of the law. You should also study Law if you are interested in how law is made in the UK, how to solve legal problems, what lawyers do, or how to determine a person’s innocence or guilt.

What will I learn?
You will learn about Law Making and the Legal System (Unit 1) which includes the role of Parliament in law-making and how people other than parliament can make law. We also study the Concept of Liability (Unit 2) which includes the different crimes that people can be charged with and how people can claim compensation from others. An example of an assignment you will be doing is: “Describe the range of sentences that the court may impose on a defendant.”

What’s it like studying law?
Law is a fun and challenging subject. You will take part in a variety of different activities, such as group work, discussion, role plays, debate and quizzes. As this is an A-level subject, you will be expected to work hard, complete all the work that is requested of you and participate in the lessons or else the teacher will overrule you and sentence you to a maximum of a lifetime of misery sitting at home!

“Law is my favourite subject. The teacher makes it interesting and easy to understand” (Fateha Ullah, student).

“The students are enthusiastic and ready to learn” (Razur Rahman, teacher).

Your Teacher
Your teacher will be Razur Rahman, an Eastender whose life to date has always been in education and whose passion is now to pass on to others the knowledge and life vision that he received from his teachers at school and college. He has great ideas for the classroom and will give you a broader understanding of the subject in terms of international and regional law. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, television, food and drink, and cosmology.
