A Level Psychology

Why study Psychology?
Most people find Psychology a fascinating subject, because it’s about us: how our minds work; how we cope with the challenges of life; why we do the things we do; why we feel the ways we feel.

But you must remember that Psychology is a Science subject, so we have to look at hard evidence before we can come to conclusions about the mysteries of the human mind.

Studying Psychology will help you understand more about yourself, and other people, and it will help you to develop your logical thinking skills and your memory (you’ll need a good memory to get a high grade!)

What’s it like studying Psychology?
Psychology at BSix is special, as any of our students will tell you. You work in a base room with extra computers, and you will find the Psychology students there at lunch times and right up till closing time, researching, discussing and sharing ideas. The whole course is available on the Virtual Learning Environment so you can access any of your lessons from home at any time, and get help from the teacher online.

There’s a lot to learn, so lessons are hard work and very focused on all the information you have to absorb. But there are also plenty of opportunities for discussion and to apply what you are learning to your own life situation.

A typical exam question:
“Explain some of the differences between short term and long term memory.”

Student Voice:
“Even though I’m at University now, if I had the chance I would come back to BSix to continue studying Psychology because it’s so interest- ing.” Shamim Patel, 1st year Education student at Goldsmith’s College, London.

Teachers
Ashraf Hassim grew up in apartheid South Africa, where he saw the extremes of human behaviour at first hand. After a career which included working for Shell, IBM and other major companies, as well as driving large trucks from one end of Africa to the other, he came to study Psychology and continue his passion for the subject by becoming a teacher at A level. In recent years Ash has created his own website (www.psychologyrevise.com) which is used by A level student all over Britain.
